Sterling Backcheck is committed to ongoing enhancements to the client experience and our cloud-based infrastructure. To improve page loading time, we have released an update that will limit the number of recent results that are automatically generated upon initial login for our MyBackcheck clients.
Starting November 16, 2021, only background check orders that were completed in the last 10 days will populate in the Recent Results section, instead of all unarchived order results. You will still be able to find other recently completed orders utilizing the system’s search functionality.
If you have any comments or questions, please reach out to your Sterling Backcheck Client Success representative.
ID Verification during COVID-19 – Temporary changes
Our Electronic ID Verification (eIV) is the most convenient, safe, and efficient way to verify identity and it continues to be our preferred method of ID verification.
If eIV is not suitable or unsuccessful, normally physical ID verification in person with a hiring manager or at a Canada Post counter is required. While most Canada Post locations are still operating and able to provide this service, the reality is that everyone is asked to practice social distancing and avoid unnecessary contact with others to minimize the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
To facilitate this, we encourage you to follow this temporary remote ID verification process using any online video platform:
- Connect with your candidate live through any video calling platform (WebEx, Zoom, Teams, FaceTime, Google, Facebook, or others), so you can clearly see their face and hear their voice.
- Ask your candidate to hold up two valid IDs (one at a time) that meet RCMP requirements so you can clearly read them. Remember, the first ID must be government-issued and have the candidate’s name, date of birth, photograph and signature. The second only needs to show the candidate’s name.
- Verify that the photograph on the primary ID looks like the candidate’s face that you see through the video chat.
- Verify the candidate’s full legal name and date of birth from the IDs you see on the screen.
- Complete and submit Sterling’s ID verification form and copies of the candidate’s IDs.
- After the COVID-19 pandemic has passed and face-to-face contact is again advisable, check the candidate’s IDs again in person, make sure you are satisfied the picture matches the candidate’s face, and make sure the correct name and date of birth were checked.
You do not need to record your video chat session.
This is a temporary solution due to COVID-19 and we will go back to our standard requirements for the ID Verification process once feasible. This is also not a replacement for eIV and should only be used if eIV is impossible or unsuccessful. Sterling Backcheck has notified the RCMP that we are implementing this measure on an exceptional, emergency basis.
If you are not currently utilizing Organization Based/Hiring Manager ID Verification and would like to do so, please reach out to your Account Manager to have the option added.
